Hypnosis is a term that developed in medical circles  that came to mean a interaction between two people (a client and a hypnotist) in which the hypnotist assists the  client in entering an altered state of consciousness.  Hypnosis is a situation in which  we are able to access the subconscious mind and use it to answer questions posed by the hypnotist.

The client is never in the control of the hypnotist.  If the client is asked to do behaviors that they want to do, they can be supported by hypnosis to accomplish that goal.  The actual procces of hypnosis is a state of focused attention so that the client can focus on a particular concept or idea and if they are willing to accomplish that idea the intense focus spurs the unconscious mind to accomplish that goal.

Clinical hypnosis is not a parlor trick or a form of entertainment used by the stage hypnotist.  In the use of health hypnosis, many dieases can be treated or can be used to assist the healing process in cooperation with a physician.

Health hypnosis can be used in pain management.  Since the brain is the control center of the nervous system all pain signals must pass through the brain in order for the client to recognize the sensation.  Hypnosis can be used  to condition the brain to lessen the sensation of pain or in some cases to block it completely.  It is important to have a physician determine that the pain is not caused by a problem that will worsen if ignored.

Health hypnosis can be used to encourage the healing process in diseases that are being treated by physicians.  Some hypnotists specialize in treating cancer victims and have been successful in helping to heal cancers.  Others treat people who are HIV positive and specialize in helping to increase T cell counts.  There is probably no health or medical condition that can not be assisted by the application of hypnosis.
