NLP – Information Processing

The things we do on a conscious level are very important but  we must also be aware that what goes on in our unconscious minds also have an major effect on our thoughts and behavior.

The events that occur in the outside world are merely raw data that is fed into our processing system and have no real meaning until we give it meaning.

We all process information differently based on our unique experiences.   The raw data is fed into our systems and we then attach a meaning to it.

Consciously, we decide how we process information based on our individual view of the world.

Our perceptions are neither right or wrong. They are merely our interpretation of the raw data fed into our processing system.

Although are perceptions and feelings are neither right or wrong they are not necessarily true. And the can sometimes be inappropriate for the situation that we are involved with at the time.  They can block our ability to enjoy or lives or to be productive as individuals.

We all have a unique view of the world.  LIving our lives based on this unique view  would often be called our personality. Our personality is pretty well formed by the time we are five years old and the only sort of thing  that will change it is some intense personal experience.  This could be a religious conversion, prison, some type of near death experience or anything that would be significanlty intense enough to create a change in an individual.

People don’t just change bercause they have a desire to change.  The reason for this is our individual environmental experiences.  Everything that we have ever experienced is stored in our unconscious mind.  Everything that we have seen, felt, personally experienced or even seen in a movie is stored.  We don’t remember it but it is there. We cannot make significant changes until we reprogram our subconscious minds to allow us to change.

Everything that we experience today is filtered through our unconscious storehouse of past experiences and surfaces in our conscious as a product of our past experiences and the result is our current perceptions.

An example of this is when something happens and there are a number of witnesses.  More than likely, several witnesses will have a slightly different version of the event and some may have a version that veries widely from the others.  This is because we all have pasts that influence our current perceptions.

Ok, so what do we do about it.  Sometimes we have to go back into the past and reprogram it.  It helps to view the past from a time when you have more experience in the world or perhaps a little more maturity.  NLP can help you reprogram your past and bring your perception of events today into a world view that is more able to help you function in a way that is not blocking your enjoyment or productivity of your life today.
