Stage Hypnosis

Almost everyone has heard of hypnosis and it has become more recognized as a method of helpong with mental health issues such depression and anxiety.  It is also helpful with problems caused by behaviors such as addiction and overeating.  Hypnosis has long been known for it’s entertainment value or stage hypnosis.

I spend a good bit of time when I am doing a pre-talk with prospective clients explaining stage hypnosis because they are afraind that they will leave my office quacking like a duck or some other outrageous behavior.  I explain that there is a difference between stage hypnosis and clinical hypnosis.

I do know how to do stage hypnosis although I choose not to do it.  Stage hypnosis is real hypnosis.  The people are hypnotized and remain in a trance until the hypnostist asks them to come out.

In the first place, the people who volunteer for the program know that they are going to do foolish things and tacitly agree to do them.  Some people do not go into hypnosis quite as easily as others, especially in fromt of a crowd of people.  The hypnotist always has an assistant who watches for people who are not readily going into trance and the assistant will send them back to their seats.

Next the process of pyramiding begins. The hypnotist begins by having the participants perform relatiely simple tasks  The assistant sends the ones who have trouble with these back to their seats.  The ones who are successful are then asked to perform more and more difficult tasks to entertain the audience. until finally they are on staqe speaking the Marian language or some other funny activity.

It’s all in fun but I have some reservations about stage hypnosis.  I attended a show in Las Vegas and I was somewhat uncomfortable with this show.  It was adult material and as I said before the subjects were volunteers but it is hard to back out if you are feeling a little pressure. I guess my main problem is having to spend so much time explaining that I will not be doing this in my office in the middle of a smoking cessation session.
