The Subconscious Mind at Work

Nobody knows exactly where to find our subconscious mind.  When we talk about things like this we are probably more comfortable imagining that it is a definate entity that sits somewhere in our body, usually in our brain, and can be identified on an anatomical chart.

We pretty much know how our brain works with a combination of chemcal energy and electrical impulses. Scientists are understanding more about the physical properites of the brain every day.  The mind, however seems to be entirely different. There are theories about the working of the mind but no one knows exactly how the mind works.

The most obvious is the conscious mind.  That contains our logic, our consciousnness and our analytical thinking. This is sometimes called the left side of the brain.

But, deeper are those parts of the mind that controls those things that we are outside of our consciousness such as breathing, heartbeat, digestion and other bodily functions.  It is obvious that we can not control our existance on a conscious level. To do this consciously we would have to be aware of all of these things at all times.  Sometimes we can consciously stop some of these functions.  For example, we can hold our breath for a period of time but sooner or later we will have to exhale and let that part of our mind take control once again.

The part of our minds that control this is the subconscious mind.  Where it exists is not exactly clear but it certainly exists.  It controls bodily functions, that phenominon that we call muscle memory and those things that exist outside of our conscious thought that controls our daily behavior.  As we study the subconscious we can observe several things.  First, the subconscious has stored everything we have ever experienced.  All that has happened to us, seen on television or in movies are read in books.  The subconscious does not hear negatives.  Have you ever tried not to think about something?  The subconscious forces us to act in what it consider’s our best interest,  That is why we can’t hold our breath for too long.

The problem is that the subconscious takes everything very literally.  It has no analytical thinking and therefore sometimes gets confused.  An example: an overweight woman whose subconscious heard a doctor tell her mother once when she was ill as a child “If she doesn’t eat, she will die.” Her subconscious took this very literally and made sure that she eats.  She has eaten her way up to 400 pounds but the subconsciuos believes that it is acting in her best interest.

The subconscious can be accessed through hypnosis.  The analytical thinking can be bypassed and the subconscious can be reprogramed into allowing the person to eat in a healthy manner.  Try hypnosis to reprogram your subconscious and change your behavior,

  2. I like your analysis. Good point. That is how hypnosis helps people (if used properly). Everything starts in subconsious mind. You want to eat a lot because you trained your mind that way (the same thing with weight loss and other problems). So use hypnosis to train your subconsious and be sure do only when needed.

    Thanks for the article.
