Training to Bring a Client to the Hypnotic State
There are lots of ways to train in hypnosis. My initial training was as a licensed mental health professional. I actually could have used my license to practice hypnosis but I decided that becoming a certified hypnotist would be in the best interests of my clients.
When I decided to become trained in hypnosis, I did some research and decided to become a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists. (NGH). It seemed to me that this would be the best organization to join. I still believe that it is the best interest of the novice Hypnotist to join the NGH for many reasons. I sought out a Certified Instructor and made arrangements to be trained.
The Guild requires one hundred hours of training but this particular instructor required 200 hours. Experience has taught me not to regret the extra 100 hours even though I wish I had been able to locate another instructor. Based on my schedule, I had to arrange private instruction and I started visiting this guy all day, every Thursday for 200 hours of Thursdays.
I learned how to do put clients into the hypnotic state but I had some major issues with some of the other training. I later learned that the NGH has a training course for Certified Instructors and the course is quite comprehenxive. I believe that my chosen instructor was well trained. He just had some other agendas. He had some issues with the both medical and psychological professionals. His training was interspersed with derogatory remarks concerning both fields. On two occasions he focused on his prejudices so much that I told him that he could begin teaching hypnosis or I could leave and come back the following week to continue training. Actually I share some of the same issues with these fields but I was paying, and paying pretty dearly, for hypnosis training.
Finally, the training was completed and I was certified as a Hypnotist with the NGH and I began to practice. I also continue to get training in Hypnosis. I would love to hear how some of the rest of you got trained.
